Homemade Corn Tortillas. These can be tricky at first but with practice you will get the hang of it.
Pour 2 cups of Maseca, 1/4 teaspoon salt and 1 1/3 cups of hot water into a bowl
Get your hands dirty. Start mixing. Folding over the dough onto itself.
Keep folding it over itself until well combined and forms a ball
Get out your tortilla press.
Mine is 15 years old.
Cut a plastic shopping bag the shape of the tortilla press.
The plastic keeps the dough from sticking to the tortilla press.
Make a golf ball size ball of Maseca dough.
Put it between the plastic.
Close the tortilla press.
Press down to flatten dough.
Gently take flattened dough off plastic
Place on heated Comal or non stick frying pan. no oil.
Our comal is as old as our tortilla press.
When edges of tortilla start to curl it's ready to flip.
Wait about 30 to 40 second and flip again.
Press down onto tortillas with the back of a spatula.
It may puff up. My kids love watching
to see if it will puff up or not. Place onto a plate.
Continue the process with the rest of the Maseca dough.
