Homeschool Weed Walk Field Trip

Yesterday we had a fun homeschool field trip to a Weed Walk event. We were taken on an hour tour and our guide pointed out lots of plants that I would normally consider a weed. Our guide gave us a brief description on how to identify each plant and what it may be good for, medicinally speaking. She had a table piled high with all kinds of resources for us to look through and watch concerning herbs, wild edibles and identifying plants.  It was very interesting! Afterwards, we enjoyed a picnic and the kids had fun running around playing.

This is my son playing with sidewalk chalk.

Red Clover

Violets

Purple Dead Nettle

Lambs Quarter

Henbit

Onion Grass

Mullein

Neat old one room school house we saw today.

Other weeds we identified but I didn't get a picture of were Dandelion, White Clover, May Apple, Chickweed, Wood Sorrel, Plantain, Curly Yellow Dock, and Cleavers. We also got to pet goats, dogs, and bunnies.

Spring is one of my favorite seasons! It was so refreshing to get out in the nice weather and learn about some of the plants that God put here on earth for us to enjoy.

***You should always seek the advice of a professional when trying to identify wild edibles.

What has been one of your favorite field trips?

Blessings,
Starla J.

  2. Homeschooled and public..both chosen for different reasons.. Had a 14 year on his first medical mission trip and would not have had the chance in public..but had great things happen with ones in public.. Our goal was you get out what you put into the year.
