My Favorite Free Educational Sites

free educational website
We home-school our kiddos. I love finding free resources to help supplement my child's education. You do not have to be a homeschooling family to use these resources. I know plenty of families that use online resources to help their children with their education. So here is my family’s favorite top 10 FREE educational websites!

FREE is awesome!  Free is my kinda price!  I love FREE!  Yay for free!

I was not paid for this post and I am not affiliated with any of these organizations. I just wanted to share our family’s favorite free educational resources with my followers. Enjoy!

#1. Starfall
Starfall has a free section and a paid for section. I used the free section when my daughter was learning to read and I now use it with my son. It’s colorful, interactive and fun for the kids. It’s a great way to help teach the munchkins phonics. The website says it’s for PreK through Second grade. Check it out!

#2. Teach My Monster To Read
Teach My Monster To Read is probably my 5 year olds favorite. You do have to create an account on this site but it is free. Once signed in, my son got to create and dress up his monster. The child guides this monster through the game; learning letter sounds, words and more. Great for young readers! It’s colorful, interactive and fun!

#3. XtraMath
XtraMath is great! We love it! We have used it for years. They use timed practice to help kids learn their math facts like addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Parents get progress reports regularly, which I love.  It’s nice to see how my child has progressed. It doesn’t take but a few minutes everyday. The levels start off at Kindergarten and go up to 4th/5th grade. It’s a great FREE resources for anyone needing to learn or brush up on their basic math skills.

#4. Duolingo
Duolingo is a FREE online foreign language study. They offer Spanish, French, German, Italian and Portuguese. My 9 year old daughter and I both have an account to help us learn Spanish. You earn points and badges as you get better. You must create an account but it is free.

#5. Ein-O Science
Ein-O Science is a favorite with both my kids. They love science stuff! This website is offers free science project ideas, videos, games and downloads. It’s interactive, animated and fun.

#6. PBS Kids
PBS Kids has LOTS of learning videos and games that my kids love. My daughter loves the Wild Kratts site. She loves learning about the animals they talk about. My son’s favorite is Curious George. They even have some Spanish games/videos!

#7. Grammar Ninja
Grammar Ninja is a fun game to help you learn parts of a sentence. This is a great free site for anyone wanting to better their grammar skills. They have 3 levels; beginner ninja, skilled ninja and master ninja.

#8. Kidsspell
Kidsspell.com offers free spelling lists for the entire school year per grade level. They offer 1st grade through 12th grade. They also have practice games that are interactive, colorful and fun for the kids. We use this for my daughter in 4th grade.

#9. Youtube
Youtube has been a great educational resource. We watch fun science experiments, history videos, sight word videos, Spanish videos and more all for FREE!!

#10. NeoK12
Neok12 is great for the kids that learn best by seeing and doing. Neok12 has a free and paid section. I have only used the free videos. They have lots of videos and games on all the subjects for kindergarten through 12 grade. I like that each video is marked with what grade level it should be used with.

There you have it! My top 10 favorite FREE educational websites that we use often if not daily. I hope this post has been helpful to you and your family.

  1. I love this post! We plan to homeschool (mine is just a baby now, but I'm already making plans) and it is good to see so many resources out there. That will make it easier for us to mix and match between material from a curriculum we buy and doing it ourselves on other subjects. That said, if you find a free resource that teaches young kids Latin please post it! We are definitely starting with Latin!
