The problem is sin; our own sin and the sin of others that affect us. It brings about damage to our souls such as pain, hurt, anger, sorrow, a critical spirit, feelings of unworthiness, bitterness, brokenness and much more.
When we push these deep down inside us, God doesn't get to heal it.
Think of a wound on your hand. When we get a nasty cut, what do we do? Do we put a glove on an effort to hide it? Having an "out of sight, out of mind" mentality about the wound? No! Immediately we analyse it, clean it out, put medication on it and bandage it up to prevent an infection.
There is a spiritual wound caused by sin that is deep within us. The effects of sin festers and although we try to cover it up; it comes out of us through our actions and words.
For example, when we lash out at others with anger, selfishness, impatience, lies, and being critical; those are the side effects of something inside us that needs to be surrendered to God and evidence to us that we need to bare our soul to God.
As christian, we should be persistently pursing the Fruits of the Spirit.
"But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control."
Do we even know what it means to pray through anymore?
Having godly sorrow; do we run to the altars, kneel before God, bare our soul to Him in true surrender and repentance?
Do we stay at the altar seeking God for forgiveness and healing? Do we humble ourselves and ask God to help us to forgive others? Do we stay at God's feet baring all? Kneeling before our Savior, baring our naked soul, as we pray through the addictions, sins, pain, anger, hurts, bitterness, hardness of heart or whatever it is that hinders our relationship with Him.
2 Corinthians 7:10 "Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death."
How deep do you go with God?
Showing up to church on Sunday mornings isn't good enough any more. (pretty sure it never was)
Read Daniel 9:4-19. Do you see and feel his desperation while praying? Let's get back to that.
Sin and the effects of sin keep us distracted and away from God.
Let's run to Him! Praying for Him to forgive us and to help us forgive others. Praying with godly sorrow and true repentance in our hearts. Let's ask God to reveal Himself to us again. Let's seek His calling on our lives once more.
Let's seek after God to reveal how much He loves us. Through Him we are cherished, loved and valued. No one on this earth could ever love us as much as He loves us.
Let's surrender all. Completely. Our time, ourselves, our thoughts, our hearts, careers, marriages, children, titles, simply everything.
I fully believe that once we make the habit of baring our souls to God, we can live and be used by Him in such a way that brings a peace that passes all understanding. Why? Because we are not held back by wounds and bondage anymore. We will truly see and trust God. We will be able to have that close relationship that God desires and that we desperately need.
He waits for us. He loves us just the way we are, but He loves us to much to leave us where we are.
His love is overwhelming.
