Pray for Your Husband Before He Leaves for Work.

I didn't always pray for my husband. I disappointingly admit this.

To be honest, I'm not sure why I didn't pray for him. We have been married for 15 years now so I can not use the excuse of being a newly wed or not knowing about such things.

No matter the pitiful excuses I could possibly drum up to make myself feel better. I failed.

One of the greatest privileges a wife has is to pray for her husband.

The good news is that now I am praying for him. And you should be praying for your husband too.

Lifting up your husband in prayer everyday. Pursing the Holy Spirit to fill you so that you may give to others.

It's a small thing really, but having the right heart and attitude to pray for our husbands has such a huge impact.

Our Spiritual Tanks

To give we must be filled. To pray for our husbands as God calls us to do, first we must seek the Holy Spirit to fill us so we have something to give.

John 7:38
"Whoever believes in me, as scripture has said, rivers of living water flow from within them."

Our cars won't run when the tank is on empty and neither can we function, as we are called, when our spiritual tank is empty. Our coffee maker won't give us its dark colored liquid of yumminess if it isn't plugged into a source of electricity. Neither can we give the best of ourselves to our husbands if we aren't plugged into the Holy Spirit.

We can fill our spiritual tanks by intentionally pursuing a relationship with God. Making sure we wisely plan our days to include time to pray, worship and read our bibles. Set yourself up to succeed.

If you are not accustomed to praying for your husband with him beside you or even him being listening distance away from you - it may feel awkward at first, but keep at it. It gets easier and it gets better.

Before my husband walks out the door to go to work, I ask him if I may pray for him. He says yes and I pray a short, effective prayer over my hard working husband.

It doesn't have to be some elaborate long prayer. Simple, humble and heartfelt is best. Coming before God in the early morning; seeking the Holy Spirit to be with your husband as he goes about his day.

My simple prayer is this...

Lord,

Thank you for who you are and for giving us a new day with new grace, mercy and love. I lift up my husband to you today as he walks out the door and goes to work. I pray the Armor of God over him so that he may take a stand against the enemy. I pray for your protection over him as he travels and goes about his day. Lord, make him brave, courageous and have a bigger appetite for you. Give him everything he needs to have a great day today. Whatever is hindering him and his walk with you - I ask that you remove it. Bless him, Lord. Bless the works of his hands. Bless his finances. Give him Favor. Give him favor among his peers and bosses. Guard his heart and thoughts. Give him your joy and love today. Thank you Lord for my husband. He is a gift. In Jesus' Holy name I ask all this. Amen.

I share my simple, intimate prayer with you as an example only. Ask God to guide your words as you pray for your husband.

Proverbs 14:1
"The wise woman builds her house, but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down."

Let's be intentional about praying for our husbands, being the expert on the good of our husbands and being the wives God has called us to be.

When do you pray for your husband? Next time you pray for your husband, ask him how you can pray for him. He may just surprise you with a special prayer request.

Blessings,

Starla J.

  2. My husband works nights. We pray together before he leaves; we kind of start his day with prayer and end mine :). We started praying together a few years ago, and now our six year old son sometimes joins us :). It has made a huge difference in our marriage!!
